Allan shared with us his success story on how he has managed to access the German market with organic coffee from Tanzania.
Allan pursued his career in Germany and worked as a consultant with MHP, a Porsche Company. In 2016, Allan and his wife Katharina founded MAK Coffee GbR (https://www.mak-coffee.com). They import fair-trade organic coffee which they purchase from a group of 28 coffee-farming families in the fertile slopes at the foot of Mount Meru in Tanzania.
>>Allan Mutagwaba quits a top position to establishe the coffee shop in Germany. MakCoffeeAfrika is a social enterprise dedicated to sustaining the coffee farmer in Tansania.
MAK Africa opens a coffee shop in Augsburg
Last year, Allan and Katharina Mutagwaba opened the MAK Café based in Augusburg. Ecologically and fair traded coffee from Tanzania is now available in the MAK Café.
About MAK Afrika
MAK Afrika – is a Social Enterprise sourcing agricultural and other products from the African continent for the European market. Direct and fair trade is at the core of our business model, and through that small scale farmers are able to attain the following:
- Fairness: Farmers fetch prices higher than the market price thus improving their income levels and ultimately standard of living.
- Direct: The money is directly transferred to the farmers’ bank account, eliminating middlemen.
We strongly believe in win-win-business solutions and therefore work to maintain a transparent and traceable supply chain, whereby our stakeholders are in position to trace the origin of their products. On the other hand we insist on creating partnerships with farmers, and reinvest part of our proceeds in social projects which are in the long run beneficial for both the farmers and the community at large.
