Meet Matabato Kimani (Mat Kimani), currently working as the Operations Manager for SumUp in Berlin. Originally from Kenya, Matabato has an inspiring career path having secured three scholarships in Hongkong and in Germany.

My Career Path

My dream to study aeronautical engineering helped me aim at achieving some of the goals I had set in life.

Immediately after finishing my high school at Strathmore School in Kenya, I successfully got a scholarship from United world College of Hong Kong (UWC) where I acquired the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

The academic and social exposure at UWC paved way for me to pursue my studies in Germany. I was again successful in securing a scholarship to cover the tuition fee at Jacobs University, a private and international university in Bremen, where I graduated with a BSc Electrical and Computer Engineering.

After graduating from Jacobs University, I was interested in looking at the business side of technology and decided to further my studies and joined the European Business School (EBS) in Wiesbaden for my Masters in Finance. I was happy to receive funding as well.

One of my goals in life in giving back to the society back in Africa is to share my skills and knowledge by building a knowledge sharing platform accessible to all.

A big thank you to my parents who were of great support! I hope my story will inspire you and even to apply for the current call for scholarships at the University. Details about the scholarship can be found here.
