Opportunity Card: Work in Germany

The Opportunity Card is a residence permit that enables workers from non-EU countries to come to Germany to seek employment. It can also be used to explore opportunities for recognizing foreign professional qualifications within Germany. Eligibility for the Opportunity Card is determined through a points-based system that evaluates your qualifications, skills, and personal circumstances. A minimum of six points is required to qualify. However, if you hold a vocational qualification or degree that was obtained or recognized in Germany, you can apply as a skilled worker without needing to meet the points threshold. In both cases, you must also meet the basic requirements outlined below.

The following basic requirements must be met to apply for the Opportunity Card:

• Sufficient financial resources to cover your living expenses during your stay in Germany. 
• For skilled worker applications: - a university degree or vocational qualification obtained or recognized in Germany.
• A completed degree or at least two years of vocational training recognized by the country where it was obtained.
• German language skills at a minimum of A1 level or
• English language skills at a minimum of B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
