Apprenticeships (Ausbildungen) in Germany

Apprenticeship programs (Ausbildungen) in Germany are vocational training programmes for high school leavers who do not pursue university degrees. Students work part-time in a company while attending vocational school, usually over three years. They receive a monthly salary and alternate between work and study. Enrollment requires a host company and strong German language skills.

Opportunities in Germany for Kenyan Highschool Graduates

In collaboration with Hochschule Koblenz, Mount Kenya University, AG-Career Hub, and German healthcare institutions, we have been placing Kenyan high school graduates in apprenticeship programs to train as healthcare professionals in Germany. This is part of a research project led by Hochschule Koblenz on sustainable international recruitment.

So far, 54 apprentices have been successfully placed and are training as nurses at Caritas Bad Mergentheim and Krankenhaus Tauberbischofsheim. Starting in October 2025, we secured a new partner, Gemeinschaftsklinikum Mittelrhein, which offers nursing courses as well as apprenticeships in medical radiology. So far, we have placed a total of 54 students from Kenya.. You can read more about the research project here: Ensuring A Sustainable Pool of Nursing Professionals

The partnership between Hochschule Koblenz and Mount Kenya University

In 2023, the first pilot project was launched, offering young individuals the chance to train as nurses in Germany. Candidates who meet the specified requirements begin with a preparatory course at Mount Kenya University to prepare for their training in Germany.

Students who meet the requirements enroll in a preparation course at MKU, covering intercultural training, medical German terminology, and basic nursing skills. The course helps improve language, cultural understanding, and knowledge of the German healthcare system. Meanwhile, visa application documents are processed. Our German partners assist with visa interviews, airport pickup, and ongoing support during training.
