The award ceremony took place in Berlin on 3 December 2025, bringing together organizations and initiatives from across Germany that are developing innovative and practical approaches to the integration of international skilled workers and employees.

Our initiative was recognized in the category “Everyday Life and Arrival” for its approach to preparing international skilled workers for their start in Germany and providing structured support throughout their integration into the labour market.

Building an ecosystem for sustainable integration

A central element of the initiative is the mentorship programme under AG Career Hub. AG Career Hub connects young talents from Kenya with mentors, universities, training institution and with companies in Germany through university and apprenticeship placements, mentoring, digital workshops, educational partnerships, and networking.

Founded by Kenyan professionals who were educated in Germany, AG Career Hub draws on the experience and strength of the Kenyan diaspora to support young people on their path into education, vocational training, and employment.

Through its network, AG Career Hub has developed an ecosystem where people support and learn from one another. In a research project, newly arriving trainees were matched with Buddies from the network, who provide personal, social, and professional support during their transition to Germany.

The approach is based on a simple principle:

Integration begins in the country of origin and continues in Germany – through preparation, mentorship, role models, and community. The strong involvement of the Kenyan diaspora in Germany is an essential part of this model. Members of the community share their experience, knowledge, networks, and personal support, helping to create a bridge between Kenya and Germany.

Recognized by Germany – Land of Ideas

Germany – Land of Ideas is an initiative that makes innovative projects in Germany visible and highlights how ideas can positively impact people, the economy, and society. It is supported by the German Federal Government and the Federation of German Industries (BDI), with support from partners including the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Mercator Foundation.

Being selected as one of the 50 award-winning initiatives of 2025 is an important recognition of our work and of the value of practical, community-based approaches to integration.

We are proud of this achievement and grateful to our mentors, Buddies, members of the Kenyan diaspora, partner organizations, educational institutions, employers, and all the young people who are part of this journey.

Together, we are creating sustainable pathways between Kenya and Germany and building an ecosystem where people support each other.
